Daniel Andrews has confirmed Victorians can get on the beers.
Announcing the end of stage four lockdown on Monday afternoon, the Victorian Premier was asked the question on everyone’s lips.
“Can I confirm you are saying we can finally get on the beers?” a reporter asked.
“I don’t know that I’ll be drinking a beer tonight,” Mr Andrews said. “I might go a little higher up the shelf.”
The question of whether or not Victorians can “get on the beers” has dogged Mr Andrews throughout the state’s coronavirus lockdown, which by most measures has been the world’s longest and most draconian.
Asked the question back in May, Mr Andrews stressed that “no, they cannot”.
“There’ll be a time for that, and no one will enjoy making that announcement more than me,” he said at the time.
A Facebook page, “Has Daniel Andrews said we can get on the beers yet?”, celebrated Monday’s announcement.
“We’re partially back on the beers!” the page wrote, adding a “beers” emoji.
