Chris Pratt’s The Tomorrow Battle probably heading to Amazon

UPDATE: Deadline is now reporting that Amazon has made a rich $200 million offer, $75 million more than what they paid for the same studio’s Coming 2 America. The deal isn’t done yet, but clearly this film is heading towards a streaming bow. Likely it won’t be the last 2021 film to go that way. Such a deal would make sense for Amazon, who have aggresively been trying to launch their own feature franchise. On the TV side they have The Boys and their upcoming Lord of the Rings series, but this could be the boost their feature section needs.

ORIGINAL POST: Before Chris Pratt returns to Jurassic World for another ill-advised romp with ferocious dinosaurs, we could end up seeing him in THE TOMORROW WAR via one of life’s many streaming platforms. It’s been reported that the Paramount/Skydance film was screened to high-profile streamers over the weekend to potential buyers. Feedback about the film was reportedly quite positive, and Skydance is ready to lead the sale process.

The film, led by Chris Pratt, follows a man who is drafted to fight in a future war where the fate of humanity relies on his ability to confront his past. Pratt is also an executive producer on the Chris McKay-directed film, which is written by Zack Dean (Deadfall, 24 Hours to Live). Originally, The Tomorrow War was due to arrive during the 2020 holiday but has since been pushed to a theatrical release of July 23, 2021. Be that as it may, the theatrical market isn’t what it used to be, and so it might behoove the studios to sell the sci-fi spectacle to an eager streamer. In other words, it’s all about the Benjamins. Theatrical returns are never a guarantee. Add the ongoing pandemic to that mix and you’ve got a recipe for potential failure. At least with a film being sold to a streaming network, you can recoup a portion of the cost outright.

The Tomorrow War also stars Betty Gilpin, Yvonne Strahovski, and J.K. Simmons, among several others.

So, there you have it. Does anyone want to place their bets on who will win the exclusive rights to stream The Tomorrow War? Pick a horse and let us know who it is in the comments section below.
